Tento Standardní Referenční Materiál (SRM) je primárně určen pro použití při analýze odpadů, půdy, sedimentů nebo jiných materiálů podobné matrice. SRM 2700 je matrice půdy, kontaminované zbytky zpracování chromitové rudy (COPR), která byla vysušena vzduchem, proseta, ozářena pro sterilizaci a smíchána za účelem dosažení vysokého stupně homogenity. Jedna jednotka SRM 2700 obsahuje přibližně 75 g vysušeného materiálu sterilizovaného zářením v tmavé skleněné lahvi se šroubovacím uzávěrem.
